Ortak

Orkney Islands - a place of ancient Norse and Scottish history - is also the home of Ortak Jewellery.  From modest beginnings in the late sixties in a quiet Kirkwall street, its founder, Malcolm Gray, created a company which has grown steadily to become one of the UK's leading designers and manufacturers of gold and silver jewellery.

Ortak Jewellery's success is based upon innovative design, caring craftsmanship, impeccable quality and real value for money.  The traditional skills of the silversmith, handed down over decades, are still in use in their state of the art workshops.  The manufacturing base remains in the island's capital, the Royal and Ancient Burgh of Kirkwall.

Charles Garnier pioneered a new revolutionary process called electroforming which allowed for the development of large brooches which were once too heavy for fine silk blouses  but now were extremely light causing less damage to the fabric.  Big and bold earrings were a fraction of the weight other manufacturers were offering and women raved about the comfort and beauty of the designs.
